Venue: Republic of Korea Pavilion
The water-food-energy (WEF) Nexus is core element for sustainable development including achieving sustainable development goals and Paris Agreement. Global demand for WEF is increasing, driven by a rising global population, rapid urbanization, and economic growth. Agriculture is the largest consumer of the world’s freshwater resources, and more than one-quarter of the energy used globally is expended on food production and supply. Better informed decision-makings based on understanding about the WEF Nexus and integrated approach ensures water and food security, and sustainable agriculture and energy production.
Science and Technology Policy Institute, Green Technology Center of Republic of Korea and UN Environment Programme conducted collaborative research on WEF Nexus approaches to address climate change challenges and to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. The main aim of the research is to raise awareness on the importance of and provide policy direction on WEF Nexus among policymakers in the Asia Pacific Region; to share knowledge about approaches, methodologies, tools and practices on WEF Nexus which can be applicable to the Asia Pacific Region; and to explore ways to develop a collaborative framework, “WEF Nexus Dialogue Platform”. The policy report on WEF Nexus for the Asia Pacific region to be produced by the collaborative research will provide policy direction on WEF Nexus among policymakers in the Asia Pacific Region.
This side-event aims to share meaningful outcomes of collaborative research on WEF Nexus for the Asia and Pacific Region and explore ways to develop “WEF Nexus Dialogue Platform”. This side-event will reinforce awareness on the importance of and provide policy direction on WEF Nexus in order to address climate change challenges and to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
